Bangkok running races follow the weather. From November to February the city enjoys its "cool" season, and that is when nearly every big road race happens, often several on the same weekend. By March the heat returns, the calendar thins out, and serious runners either race at night, travel north, or wait for the next season.

This is our month-by-month Bangkok running races calendar for 2026-2027, from November 2026 to mid-2027. It focuses on the big, well-established events plus the type of races you can expect each month. For the full, constantly updated list of races, and for run clubs to train with, see our sister site Run Club Bangkok. You will also find upcoming races on our running page and the events calendar.

How race season works in Bangkok

  • Very early starts. To beat the heat, races start between about midnight and 6 AM. The two big marathons both start in the middle of the night.
  • Registration is online, mainly through Thai platforms such as race.thai.run and Runlah. Foreign runners sometimes register on a separate form and pay a different fee.
  • Popular races sell out, sometimes within days. If a race below matters to you, register the day entries open.
  • Bib pickup happens at an expo a day or two before. Bring your passport or ID and your registration QR code. Many races do not allow pickup on race day.

November 2026

November opens the season with a rush of charity runs, corporate runs and themed 5K and 10K events nearly every weekend, many in parks such as Lumpini, Benjakitti and Suan Luang Rama IX.

Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok (28-29 November)

The city's biggest running event, with tens of thousands of participants across all distances. Expect a marathon, half marathon, 10K and a short fun run, with the races spread over the weekend. The marathon has started at around 2 AM on the Sunday, and the course runs through the old town, past Democracy Monument and across the Chao Phraya bridges, finishing near Sanam Luang by the Grand Palace. Entry fees have been in the range of roughly 700 THB (fun run) to 1,600 THB (marathon). Last year the marathon filled early, so check the official registration page now.

December 2026

The weather is at its best and the race calendar is dense: half marathons, university and hospital charity runs, and festive Santa runs in the week before Christmas. Something unusual on the calendar is the Vertical Marathon at Banyan Tree Bangkok on Sathorn in mid-December, a stair race up the hotel tower.

Outside Bangkok, December is a popular month for destination races in the north and in historic towns. Ayutthaya, about an hour from the city, has a marathon around the historical park in December. Check dates with the organisers.

January 2027

January is the busiest and most important month of the season.

37th Bangkok Marathon (night of 9-10 January)

The city's longest-running marathon, with the start and finish on Sanam Chai Road beside the Grand Palace. The full marathon starts shortly after midnight, followed by the half marathon around 3 AM and the 10K and 5K before dawn. Fees have been listed from around 550 THB for Thai runners on the 5K up to about 1,250 THB for the marathon, with separate US dollar pricing for foreign runners. The registration window was listed as running until 31 October 2026 or until sold out, so do not leave it late. Confirm cut-offs and start times on the official site, bkkmarathon.com.

Pocari Sweat Run Carnival 2027 (16-17 January)

A huge mass-participation road race based at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bang Kapi, with race-pack pickup on Saturday 16 January and races on Sunday 17 January: half marathon at 3:30 AM, 10K at 4:00 AM and 5K at 4:15 AM. Registration is already sold out for every distance, so this one is only for those who got in.

Buriram Marathon (23 January)

Not in Bangkok, but many Bangkok runners make the trip. This is a rare evening marathon, starting and finishing around Chang International Circuit and the Chang Arena stadium in Buriram, in the northeast. It is about 5 to 6 hours by road or a short flight from Don Mueang.

The rest of January is filled with company-sponsored runs and 10Ks on most weekends.

February 2027

February is still good racing weather, though mornings get warmer by the end of the month. Expect plenty of 5K and 10K events, Valentine's-themed fun runs and some half marathons. It is also a big month for fitness races: HYROX Bangkok is listed for 11-14 February 2027 at BITEC Bang Na (see our HYROX and fitness races guide).

March and April 2027

The heat starts to bite. Races continue, but distances shrink and start times move earlier. Look for night runs, short park races and charity events. Mid-April brings Songkran, the Thai New Year, when the city is soaked in water fights for days. Hardly anyone races that week, and road closures and traffic are unpredictable.

May and June 2027

Hot and humid, with the rainy season beginning around late May. The Bangkok calendar is quiet apart from fun runs, themed night runs and indoor or stadium events. Many runners use these months to build base mileage for the next cool season.

If you want a destination race, the Laguna Phuket Marathon is traditionally held in June, and it has been listed for 12-13 June 2027. Confirm on the official site before booking flights.

Practical tips for racing in Bangkok

  • Plan transport to the start. BTS and MRT stop running around midnight and restart at about 6 AM, so for most big races you will need a taxi, Grab, or a hotel within walking distance.
  • Practise running at night or very early. A 2 AM marathon is a different experience. Train some long runs in the evening so your stomach and sleep pattern are ready.
  • Respect the humidity even in the cool season. Drink at every station and take electrolytes on anything over 10K.
  • Collect your bib early and check whether race-day pickup is possible (it usually is not).
  • Train in the parks. Lumpini Park (MRT Lumphini or Si Lom) and Benjakitti Park (MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre) are the main long-run loops. Lumpini also has a strict running direction and gets very busy at 6 PM.
  • Follow local etiquette. Everyone stops for the national anthem at 8 AM and 6 PM in public parks. Stand still until it finishes.
  • Expect the unexpected. Dates, routes and start times can change. Always confirm with the organiser shortly before the race.

Find a run club

Training with a group makes a race season far easier, and Bangkok has dozens of clubs, from social 5K runs to serious track sessions. Browse them on runclubbangkok.com, and keep an eye on our sports events for upcoming races. If you want something different for the cool season, see our guide to padel in Bangkok, or our weekend sports guide for run clubs, parks and social sessions.

FAQ

When is the running season in Bangkok?

The main race season runs from November to February, during the cool season. Races continue year-round, but from March to October they are mostly shorter events with very early or night starts.

When is the Bangkok Marathon 2027?

The 37th Bangkok Marathon takes place on the night of Saturday 9 into Sunday 10 January 2027, starting and finishing on Sanam Chai Road by the Grand Palace. The full marathon starts shortly after midnight.

Is the Amazing Thailand Marathon the same as the Bangkok Marathon?

No. They are two separate races. The Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok is on 28-29 November 2026, and the Bangkok Marathon is on 10 January 2027. Some runners do both.

How do I register for races in Bangkok?

Most races use online platforms such as race.thai.run and Runlah, and the larger events have English pages for international runners. Popular races sell out quickly, so register as soon as entries open.

Why do Bangkok races start so early?

To avoid the heat. Even in the cool season, temperatures climb quickly after sunrise, so most races start between midnight and 6 AM and finish before the day warms up.

Where can I see the full list of upcoming races?

Our sister site runclubbangkok.com has a live list of upcoming races in Bangkok and across Thailand, plus a directory of run clubs. Our running page and calendar list the main events too.
