This Bangkok nightlife guide is organised by neighbourhood, because that is how the city actually goes out. Bangkok doesn't have one nightlife district. It has half a dozen, each with its own crowd, price level, dress code and closing time, and they are often 40 minutes apart in traffic. Pick the right area for the night you want and you will barely need a taxi.
Below you'll find what each area is like in 2026, which venues anchor it, how to get there and when it closes. For dated events (DJ nights, gigs, parties) check tonight's events or the nightlife listings.
Last checked: October 2026. Bars open and close quickly in Bangkok, so confirm hours on a venue's own page before heading out.
Before you go: the ground rules
A few things apply across the whole city:
- Closing times. Most licensed bars and clubs close at 2:00. Venues in the city's designated late-night zones (Silom, the RCA strip off New Phetchaburi Road, and Ratchadaphisek), plus licensed venues in hotels, can open to 4:00 if they hold the right permit. Bars with only a food-and-drink licence often stop at midnight. Our practical guide to closing times and rules has the detail.
- Age. The legal drinking age is 20, and clubs check ID. Bring your passport or a clear copy, though some clubs insist on the original.
- Trains stop around midnight. The BTS and MRT shut down at roughly midnight, so plan on Grab, Bolt or a metered taxi home.
- Prices. Menus often show "++", meaning 10% service charge and 7% VAT are added on top.
Thonglor and Ekkamai: polished bars and late suppers
Sukhumvit Soi 55 (Thonglor) and Soi 63 (Ekkamai) are where well-off young Bangkok goes out. The strip is long, so pick a cluster rather than walking it all.
- Cocktails: Dry Wave Cocktail Studio on Thonglor Soi 13 was ranked No. 4 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026, the highest in Thailand. Rabbit Hole on the main Thonglor road celebrated its tenth anniversary this year. Iron Balls Distillery at Park Lane Ekkamai makes its own gin.
- Rooftop: Octave on the 45th to 49th floors of the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, a short walk from BTS Thong Lo.
- Music: Speakerbox on Soi 55 runs indie, punk and experimental gigs. 12 x 12 is a small, community-run room for house, disco and jazz.
Getting there: BTS Thong Lo or BTS Ekkamai, then a short taxi or motorbike taxi up the soi. Thonglor is outside the 4am zones, so most places close at 2:00. Note that BEAM, long the area's best-known club, closed with the 72 Courtyard complex on 31 October 2025. See our full Thonglor and Ekkamai night out guide and the Thonglor & Ekkamai area page.
Sukhumvit, Nana and Asok: the busiest strip
Lower Sukhumvit, between BTS Nana and BTS Asok, is the city's most international nightlife zone and the easiest to reach from most hotels.
- Sukhumvit Soi 11 has the mainstream clubs (Levels and Sugar among them) and rooftop bars such as Above Eleven at Fraser Suites.
- Sukhumvit Soi 26 and Phrom Phong hold Bar Us (No. 6 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026) and the small techno bar ETA.
- Sing Sing Theater on Soi 45 is a design-led club with live acts early and DJs later.
- Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy are the go-go bar strips. They are legal, loud and very touristy; if that isn't your thing, the rest of Sukhumvit is easy to enjoy without going near them.
This is the place for an easy night with lots of choice. See the Sukhumvit area page and Asok & Phrom Phong.
Silom and Patpong: late licences and the LGBTQ+ scene
Silom is inside one of the city's 4am zones, which makes it the default for a long night.
- Silom Soi 4 is Bangkok's best-known LGBTQ+ bar street, with bars spilling onto the pavement and drag shows nearby. Everyone is welcome.
- Silom Soi 2 has the bigger gay dance clubs.
- Patpong combines a night market with go-go bars. Ignore touts offering "shows" upstairs: inflated bills are a well-known trap.
- Decho Road and around is the base for much of the city's house and techno, including the Fuchsia complex and nights such as Subwerk. Horn on Soi 4 runs queer techno nights.
- Rooftops include Sky Bar and Sirocco at lebua and Sky Beach at the top of King Power Mahanakhon.

Getting there: BTS Sala Daeng or MRT Silom for Soi 2, Soi 4 and Patpong; BTS Chong Nonsi for Decho Road and Mahanakhon. More in our Silom night out guide and on the Silom & Sathorn area page.
Ari: small bars, locals and live Thai music
Ari, two stops north of Victory Monument on the BTS, has no big clubs and no tourist strip. It is a neighbourhood of cafés by day and small bars by night, with a mostly Thai crowd of creatives and young professionals.
Expect craft beer, natural wine, cocktail bars in converted houses and the odd live band playing Thai pop standards. The Craftsman Hotel's Baby Bar is a dependable start. Saxophone Pub, the long-running live music bar at Victory Monument, is two stops away. Most places close by midnight to 1:00. Use BTS Ari and walk the sois either side of Phahonyothin Road. See the Ari area page.
Khao San Road and Phra Athit: the backpacker night
Khao San Road is loud, cheap and very much its own thing: buckets, street bars with speakers facing each other, and crowds until late. Brick Bar under Buddy Lodge has live ska and reggae bands most nights, mostly for a Thai student crowd.
For something calmer, walk one block to Soi Rambuttri or Phra Athit Road by the river, where small bars and live music cafés suit a slower drink. Adhere the 13th, a tiny blues bar on Samsen Road, has bands most nights. Note that most Khao San venues don't hold an entertainment licence, so many close around midnight to 2:00; only a few licensed venues stay open later.

There is no train station on the road itself. Take a Chao Phraya Express boat to Phra Arthit pier, or a taxi from MRT Sanam Chai or MRT Sam Yot. See Old Town.
Chinatown, Talat Noi and Charoen Krung: shophouse bars
The old riverside quarter is where Bangkok's bar scene has grown fastest. Narrow lanes off Yaowarat Road, Soi Nana (the Chinatown one, not Sukhumvit) and Charoen Krung Road now hold some of the best drinking in Asia:
- Opium Bar, above Potong restaurant on Vanich 1 Road, ranked No. 25 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026.
- G.O.D (Genius on Drugs) in Pom Prap, No. 31, with live piano.
- Messenger Service, hidden on the third floor of the Baan Trok space near Yaowarat, No. 69 on the 51 to 100 list.
- Tep Bar on Soi Nana for live Thai music.
- Bar Temp. for vinyl-only house and techno, and Clutch in The Warehouse at Talat Noi for vinyl sessions.

Eat on Yaowarat first (street food peaks around 21:00), then walk to the bars. Use MRT Wat Mangkon for Chinatown and MRT Hua Lamphong or a boat to Marine Department pier for Talat Noi. See Chinatown & Talat Noi and Riverside & Charoen Krung, and our cocktail bar guide.
Ratchada and RCA: big clubs, Thai crowds
For a big, loud, mostly Thai night, head to the RCA (Royal City Avenue) strip off Rama 9 Road, or to Ratchadaphisek Road. Both sit in 4am zones.
- RCA has the large clubs, including Route 66, Onyx and VOID, plus regular hard techno parties such as INAKOMA on Fridays. Cover charges usually include a drink.
- Ratchada mixes Thai pubs and live-band bars with the city's two biggest night markets: Jodd Fairs Ratchada and the Train Night Market Ratchada, which reopened in March 2026.
RCA is a taxi ride from MRT Phra Ram 9; Ratchada's night markets are a short walk from MRT Thailand Cultural Centre. More in our club guide, night markets guide and on the Ratchada & Huai Khwang area page.

FAQ
What is the best area for nightlife in Bangkok?
It depends on the night. Sukhumvit (Nana to Asok) has the most choice and is easiest from most hotels. Thonglor is smarter and pricier. Silom and RCA stay open latest. Chinatown has the best cocktail bars.
What time do bars close in Bangkok?
Most licensed venues close at 2:00. Venues in the Silom, RCA and Ratchadaphisek zones, and licensed hotel venues, may stay open until 4:00 with the right permit. Bars without an entertainment licence often close at midnight.
Is Bangkok nightlife safe?
Generally yes, with the usual big-city care. Use Grab or Bolt rather than unmetered taxis late at night, keep an eye on your drink, check your bill, and ignore touts offering "shows".
Do I need my passport to go clubbing in Bangkok?
Bring some ID. Clubs check that you are over 20, and some will only accept an original passport or Thai ID rather than a copy.
How much does a night out in Bangkok cost?
It ranges widely. A beer at a street bar can be under 100 THB, cocktails in good bars typically run 350 to 650 THB before service and VAT, and famous rooftop bars charge more. Check menus before you order.
